Jubilee Summer Ball with Lorena & Gaston +Workshops/ June & July Diary

No Milonga La Ideal this week. BUT a very special Jubilee treat on Saturday next week, 11th June:

SATURDAY 11th JUNE: Workshops in the afternoon with the lovely teachers, dancers and people, 2014 World Tango Salon Champion Lorena Gonzalez & Gaston Camejo.

Followed by Milonga "Jubilee Summer Ball" in the evening in the splendid Regency surroundings of the Royal Pump Rooms, Royal Leamington Spa. Where else for such an occasion? There will be a performance by Lorena & Gaston, and to keep you dancing from 8pm to just before 1 am we have yet another treat: Diego Doigneau as DJ.

NB: Luis & Elizabeth will be giving classes on Friday 10th, see below-all welcome!

Leamington is Royal Leamington Spa because Queen Victoria liked the courteous and decent behaviour of those who came to dance here from around the country. We like to think that the present monarch would approve of our friendly and courteous behaviour, our ronda, and our cabaceo, our very warm welcome, and our dancing, especially on her official birthday.

Please do come and join us in the geographical centre of England!

Booking required for the Workshops, & advised for the Ball.

Lorena Gonzalez & Gaston Camejo: Some of you will remember them from "Tango Warwick @ Warwick" in 2019, or indeed from many appearances in the UK and elsewhere before lockdown. They are Immensely popular, beautiful dancers, and superb teachers. For more about them: https://lorenaygaston.wixsite.com/misitio/about-us

Diego Doigneau: Born in Argentina where he studied music and theatre, he is based in London. He has djayed in Buenos Aires, festivals and milongas in Europe and UK, as well as for the major venues in London. He selects the songs "varying constantly (with) the atmosphere of the night"; the atmosphere can be expected to be exciting and delighful!

HOTELS etc
Two of the most convenient for the Ball: Travel Lodge and Premiere Inn, both on The Parade. Some tangueros have not enjoyed James Hotel much even though it is so close to the Pump Rooms, and inexpensive. I've heard good reports of the Angel Hotel. The Lansdowne looks good. The Jephson (aka newly refurbished Falstaff) is about 15 minutes walk from the Pump Rooms and a bit less from St Marks, and a short taxi ride from them.
Lots of B&B's and AirBnB's too.

Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth, Stratford on Avon, and the North Cotswolds is a major tourist area.

FINDING THE VENUES, PARKING etc

ST Marks Church: in North Leamington, it is easily seen on the right traveling along Rugby Rd from Leamington to Warwick just before the ASDA petrol station (cheapest petrol around!). There is a substantial car park. The Church Hall has entrance in a corner of the car park furthest from the Rugby Rd and on the Warwick side.

Royal Pump Rooms: by the river and the bandstand in the centre of town. A modest looking building. Parking is easiest on road. Most places are 2 hour parking and free after 8 pm.

Try roads on the East side of the Parade, North of the river, unless you can find a space by the Pump Room gardens. They are wide and well lit with a big police station there so should feel safe at 1 am.
