Tango Spa v10 : Some Practicalities, parking hints etc

Tango Warwick's Tango Spa v10 Festival starts next week. It is from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th Oct. See https://tangowarwick.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/groups/17622919768/permalink/10161593910469769/?mibextid=oMANbw  for programme & booking info etc. That means there are no classes at St Mary's on Friday 27th, but there will be on Friday 3rd Nov (to be confirmed).  They are on as usual this week, as is the totally informal Wednesday Space practica.

TANGO SPA v10: UPDATE & PRACTICALITIES

  1. Advanced booking and payment  is required for discounted dance passes and workshops. This must be done by the end of Monday 23rd. After that individual dance events must be paid for at the door of each event in cash. Dance events and the Friday Welcome class are not being gender balanced.

  2. Royal Spa passes are no longer available, and probably Maxi 3 will not be shortly. At the moment  workshop 4 is full; we have a slot for a follower for workshop 3!! and for couples for workshop 3. The situation for W1, W2, and W5 is confused until some offers have been confirmed.

  3. BYOB or not to BYOB:  For the Friday Milonga the Court House some wine, fine cordials, and nibbles will be provided as for our usual Milonga  Ideal. You are welcome to BYOB but there are not a lot of places to put  bottles safely.  For The Saturday Ball and Sunday Twilight Tango the bar will be open for drinks and BYOB is not appropriate. For the afternoon milonguitas there is a cafe in the same building but with  entrance by the Pump Room Gardens, and several other nearby pubs, cafes and restaurants.

  4. Friday: Finding Warwick Court House Ballroom, CV34 4EW. It is on the first floor of the building used for tourist information, little museum,  and registrary office. This is on the main east-west road through Warwick where the name changes from High Street to Jury Street and is opposite the intersection of this with Church Street, at the other end of which lovely St Mary's Church is sadly shrouded in white. The modest entrance is just round the corner in Castle Street. Stairs lead to the Ballroom.

  5. Friday: parking near the Court House Ballroom.

This has to be hunted for:  Try Jury Street (A429 the main road) itself, by the castle wall near Castle Street, in side streets towards St Mary’s Church or past the church, in Smith St., or in various car parks, see the map in:{https://www.warwickdc.gov.uk/info/20547/warwick_car_parks}. There is plenty of free parking by the Cape Road Clinic, but that's 10 to 15 minutes walk away. The only relevant other event that night, a ghost hunt at the Lord Leycester, runs only from 5 to 6.30 pm, so it should not be a serious problem. However it is not helped by the one way systems. If coming before 8pm you may need to pay for the period up to 8pm and get it free after.

  6. Saturday & Sunday: All events are within short walking distance of each other in the centre of Leamington. Note that traffic in the daytime  will be busy  so you should leave plenty of time to find parking. To add to this  the upper, north,  part of the Parade, the main shopping road in Leamington, will be closed on Sunday for a Street Market.

  7. Saturday & Sunday: Finding North Hall.

It is in Spencer Yard, North Hall CV32 3SY. Get there from Spencer Street. Go, preferably walking, left  (ie north) by ”15” pub opposite Leamington Assembly,  along the small road called ”Spencer Yard” past rubbish bins, then past the Co-Op childcare entrance, then into a large piazza with modern entrance to Motion House/ Heartbreak Productions in one corner. There is a smaller door at the nearer corner. Go in there. The North Hall is upstairs and part of Heartbreak productions. DO NOT PARK OR DRIVE IN THE PIAZZA!! it may collapse.

  8. Saturday & Sunday: Finding the Royal Pump Rooms & Conservatory, CV32 4AA.                                                                     They are just south of the River on west side of  The Parade, a bit before the Parish Church, by the  bandstanded Pump Room Gardens, opposite the fountained Jefferson Gardens.
The Conservatory is an Annexe to the Pump Rooms, at the southern end.

  9. Saturday & Sunday:  Parking.                                                                                                                                                   For the workshops make sure you leave enough time!   For a map & parking infosee                     https://www.warwickdc.gov.uk/info/20546/leamington_car_parks                                                                                     Also        http://www.traveline.info will give maps and walking times between the car parks and venues.                                                        For North Hall, Bath Street Car park CV31 3AQ is convenient, but not big. Also Station Approach  CV31 3SE. See web page above.  Also on street parking, see below.
For the Pump Rooms, as for N Hall, or Adelaide Bridge  CV32 5AH, a pleasant short walk away.

  10. Saturday & Sunday: On Street  Parking.

    • [On street] For The Pump Rooms, CV32 4AA, on Saturday night, you could use on street parking; eg Priory Terrace, by the Parish Church, and the road off it at the back of the Parish Church. Most have 2 hours restriction until 8 pm and then unlimited, and are convenient, or go a bit north of the river.

    • On street parking near the Parade is mostly limited to 2 hours between 8 am and 8 pm or 6pm. For example Euston Square, along Regent Grove/Hamilton Terrace, and along Newbold Terrace pm so these would be convenient for the Saturday Ball, and Twilight Tango.  Also streets running east off Bath Street

    • [Free on street] If you want free on-street parking you could go south of the river and hope to get 4 hours free parking on Archery Rd (from 8am to 8pm then no restriction) or two hours on York Rd or Avenue Rd, free on Adelaide Rd. You could also go north west and hope to be lucky; as you go further the restrictions will relax.  Newbold Terrace east of the entrance to the gardens has free unrestricted parking!!!!, with a nice walk to the Pump Rooms via the gardens.

  11. Eating : etc                                                                                                                                                                                       There are loads of restaurants, pubs etc in Leamington and Warwick, near the venues ; eg Smith Street or the Market Square in Warwick, Regent Street or near the Parade in Leamington.  The  Temperance Bar on Bath Street is good for a light bite, even a glass of wine etc. amnd a few minutes from the Pump rooms and North Hall.  Just out of town is the scenic Saxon Mill, CV34 5YN.

  12. Tourism                                                                                                                                                                                        Warwick Castle needs at least half a day to make up for the cost. A quick favourite in Warwick is         https://www.visitwarwick.co.uk/the-mill-garden/ with good views of the castle. In Leamington the Jephson Gardens near the Pump Rooms are worth a dawdle round. Stratford is 30-40 minutes drive away. The ruins of Kenilworth Castle are 15-20 minutes drive.

  13. Balanceo’s Shoes & Dresses                                                                                                                                            Einat will be there; so if you need to restock for the winter here is your chance.
