Milonga La Ideal with David Thomas, this Friday / Practica on Wednesday

Milonga La Ideal, Glorious June edition will have David Thomas as DJ. You are warmly invited to come and enhance this traditional milonga; almost surely a delightful, enthralling, and exciting evening, with  friendly and welcoming dancers.

Thinking about David Thomas it was easy to decide that if there had been milongas on the Titanic he would have been  the obvious choice of DJ . The ship might be going down but he would remain cool. But on second thoughts if his cool did not prevent the wreck, there would be an accentuated disaster, since few would stop dancing in order to save themselves.

Also what would happen to his books...***

Anyway for this milonga we can enjoy his choice of music in the safety of Warwick Space, Tango Warwick's home.

It is a large room with a decent floor, in a space reminiscent of Buenos Aires' Sunderland Club (some say), and with great acoustics. (See https://youtu.be/DXSYRjzcjpQ) Quoting a distinguished tanguero "a lovely milonga with a barrio feel, very good and friendly social dancers and a fluid ronda."

There will be some nibbles, soft drinks, fine cordials and wine for early arrivers, but BYOB if you wish.

TIME: Friday 2nd June, 8pm-midnight.
PLACE: Warwick SPACE, 71 Coten End, Warwick CV34 4NU.
COST
(Cash at door only) : £12 (£8 for students with student card). In cash. Prebooking not required.

WARWICK SPACE is on the north side of the main road north of the river between Leamington and Warwick; next to the Black Pug pub, aka Millwright Arms, and almost opposite a Sainsbury local. It is a short walk from Warwick Railway Station, and not far from M40 and A46. There are several hotels & B&B's nearby in this tourist area. The Castle Limes Hotel is a few minutes away. The Jephson in Leamington is about 1.3 miles away. Some swear by its breakfast. You can now even stay in Warwick Castle grounds.

PARKING is mostly on road, especially towards Warwick on the main road or Smith Street (one way, going East), on back streets (not very easy), or towards Warwick station. The St Nicholas Park car park is about 10 minutes walk away but you probably could do with a torch on the way back.
HEALTH PRECAUTIONS If you think you may have been infected with covid please take a test. If a test is positive or you are feeling unwell please stay away, especially if you think it may only be the flu!

**Apart from being a superb DJ, David Thomas's book "Getting to Know 20 Tango Orchestras" is invaluable as well as fascinating to anyone who spends time with tango music. His latest series "Get to Know Tango" https://tango-journey.com/book-series-get-to-know-tango/ looks every bit as fascinating.   It should be possible to buy signed copies at this event.

Hope to see you,

 David -for Tango Warwick

PS The totally informal Space Practica will be on as usual this Wednesday & subsequent ones in June, see previous posts.
